SANDUSKY, Ohio (September 10, 2021) – The Denison University volleyball team played a competitive match all the way through, but in the end, the Big Red fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) against No. 7 Hope College during opening day of the NCAC-MIAA Battle at the Point at the Cedar Point Sports Center.
Daria Rodriguez and
Sophia Sobota both recorded 11 kills,
Kirby MacKinnon recorded 29 assists, and
Jenna Corrao recorded 11 digs.
The two teams were tied 21-21 in the first set before an attack error by the Big Red followed by two kills for the Flying Dutchmen to give Hope set point. A kill by
Corinne Boyd and an assisted block by Boyd and
Natalie Hutras made it 24-23 before Hope won it with a kill.
Day two of the Battle at the Point will see the Big Red play Albion College at 12 p.m. followed by a matchup against No. 8 Calvin College at 4 p.m. It will be Denison's third match against a top-25 nationally-ranked team in NCAA Division III in the span of one week.
