Denison Trio Named Academic All-America®

The 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America® (CoSIDA) announced their 2021 Academic All-America At-Large team on August 4th. Megan Wong, Women's Golf, earned 1st Team Academic All-America®, Liam Picozzi, Men's Swimming & Diving, earned 2nd Team, and Casey McTague, Women's Lacrosse, earned 3rd team.
 
This past season, Wong had a scoring average of 80.4 with a low round of 74 in the first round of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship Series. She ended the series with a fifth-place performance (168) and helped the Big Red to its first NCAC Championship in program history. This season, she was also named to the WGCA All-Great Lakes Region team and was an All-NCAC first-team selection.

As a biochemistry major, Wong compiled a 3.97 cumulative GPA at Denison. The senior registered three NCAC Academic Honor Roll selections and four Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholar awards throughout her Big Red career.

McTague started and played in 12 of the Big Red's 14 games this season. She finished the year with 36 goals, five assists, 56 draw controls, 10 caused turnovers and 18 ground balls. McTague was named the 2021 NCAC Midfielder of the Year along with an All-NCAC first-team selection. The junior also registered an all-region nod for the second time in her career. 

As an education major, McTague holds a 3.86 cumulative GPA at Denison. She is a two-time NCAC Academic Honor Roll selection and was a Denison Top-50 student-athlete in 2020 and 2021.
 
A nine-time All-American, Picozzi was a member of Denison's national team in both 2019 and 2020. His top national's performance was a fifth-place effort in the 200 back (1:46.93) at the 2019 Division III Championships. He is also a five-time North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) champion, claiming four titles as a sophomore (100 back, 200 back, 400 free relay, 200 free relay) and one as a freshman (400 free relay).

Picozzi is a health, exercise & sports studies major with a 3.83 cumulative GPA. He was named to the 2019-20 and 2020-21 NCAC Academic Honor Roll and was a Denison Top-50 student-athlete over the past two seasons.
 
This brings Denison's count to 106 Academic All-America® winners in school history.
 
Created in 1952 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the Academic All-America® program is a premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete awards program. It recognizes over 1,400 outstanding student-athletes annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
