DECATUR, Illinois- Denison defeated third-ranked Webster University 8-2 in an elimination game on Saturday night to punch their ticket into Sunday's NCAA Regional Championship. The Big Red will face No. 1 ranked Washington University-St. Louis at 2 p.m. EDT. If Denison wins they will force the "if necessary" game. Denison will need to defeat WashU twice to advance to the Division III World Series.
Coming off an 8-1 loss to Wash U in the afternoon, Denison needed another lift and this time it was
Henry Haack's turn to dazzle on the mound. The reliever made his second start of the season and pitched a career-high 7.2 innings, scattering eight hits and two walks. Haack gave up two runs but only one was earned and he was helped by his defense who turned five doubles plays behind him.
Anthony Ruggieri was 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored to lead Denison at the plate.
Will Krushena was 2-for-5 with three RBI and
Danny Alvarez remained hot, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Landon Vahle led Webster's offense with a 3-for-4 day.
