DECATUR, Ill.- Denison defeated Washington-St. Louis 14-10 in the first game of the NCAA Division III Regional at Workman Family Field. With the win, Denison forced the "if necessary" game of the regional that will be played today at 6:20 p.m. Denison will be the home team in the game with the winner advancing to the Division III World Series next week in Iowa.
Denison took a 10-0 lead after three innings, but the Bears started chipping away, scoring two runs in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth to make it an 11-9 contest. The Big Red turned to
Taylor Perrett in the fifth inning and the senior right-hander turned the tide and calmed nerves. He closed out the game by striking out seven of the 15 batters he faced. Perrett surrendered three hits and one run and did not walk a batter.
Ty Robinson was the offensive star of the game going 5-for-6 with two runs scored and five RBI.
Brian McAuliffe was 2-for-5 with four runs scored and a solo homer in the fifth.
