Baseball completes 4-game sweep of OWU

DELAWARE, Ohio—Denison baseball completed a four-game sweep of Ohio Wesleyan after a pair of road victories on Saturday at Littick Field. Denison took the opener 2-0 and returned with a 9-3 win in game two.

Game 1
  • Charlie Fleming pitched a complete game three-hit shutout to lead Denison to 2-0 win in game one.  He struck out nine and walked only two to improve to 2-0 this season.
  • Jake Welsch accounted for both of Denison's RBI. He reached on a throwing error in the fifth, scoring Daniel Spencer. In the seventh, his base hit to right plated Spencer with an insurance run.
  • OWU starter Ethan Soderna limited Denison to only five hits as he went the distance, striking out nine.
Game 2
  • In his first start of the season, Josh Bohn blasted a 3-run homer to left to give Denison a 3-0 lead in the second. 
  • Ty Robinson added a two-run double and Will Krushena followed with a double down the left field line, scoring Robinson to cap off the six-run second for DU.
  • Brian McAuliffe lifted a sacrifice fly to right in the fourth inning to make it a 7-2 game and a sac fly by Bohn in the seventh put Denison on top, 8-2.
  • Denison was led at the plate by Max Lahn (2-5), Jake Welsch (2-4) and Charlie Glennon (2-4).
  • Caleb Struewing got the win in relief to improve to 2-0. Jack Arnstein recorded the save by pitching three effective innings in relief. Denison's three pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in game two.
The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday, April 7 when they travel to Wabash for a 12 p.m. doubleheader against the Little Giants.
