CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Denison baseball continued their impressive start to the 2021 season on Wednesday afternoon with a series-opening doubleheader sweep of Wabash College at Goodrich Park in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The Big Red took game one, 10-2, before coming back in extra innings to defeat the Little Giants, 10-8, in nine innings. Denison has now won eight-straight games this season, the most since 2019 when the Big Red set a program record with 17-straight victories.
Game 1
- Denison's senior starting pitcher Taylor Perrett took control of the mound in game one, throwing his first complete game of the season with two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.
- The Big Red bats assisted the right-hander's stellar pitching performance with three runs in the first two innings on RBI doubles from Will Krushena and Max Lahn and an RBI single from Brian McAuliffe. After the Little Giants followed with two runs in the home half of the second, Denison built their lead to 4-2 when Dylan Hunter drove home Daniel Spencer with a sacrifice fly.
- A lead-off home run from Krushena in the top of the fifth jump started a four-run inning for DU before two more runs in the seventh closed out Denison's seventh-straight win of the season, and fifth-straight in NCAC West play.
- Krushena and Lahn each recorded three hits in game one, combining for five runs batted in and two runs scored. Anthony Ruggieri followed with two RBIs and a run scored. Denison finished the game with 15 total hits and 10 different players scored a run for the Big Red.
Game 2
- After Krushena reached on an error in the top of the sixth and drove home Charlie Glennon, the Big Red carried a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh. With their backs against the wall, Wabash scored the tying run in the seventh when Cameron Martin reached on a fielder's choice and drove home Reece Bauer, sending the game to extra innings tied at 6-6.
- Both sides played through a scoreless eighth inning before the Big Red returned to the plate in the ninth and loaded the bases after a walk to Spencer. In the next at-bat, Glennon cleared the bases with a two-out triple before Lahn followed with an RBI single up the middle and helped the Big Red recapture the lead, 10-6.
- The Little Giants attempted to rally in the home half of the ninth when AJ Reid and Cole Vassilo connected on RBI singles, but Patrick Neenan came in from the bullpen to get the final out and the save for the DU, sending the Big Red to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in NCAC West play. The doubleheader loss dropped Wabash to 10-10 overall.
- Glennon led the way for the Big Red in game two with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Lahn, Krushena, McAuliffe, and Josh Bohn each tallied two hits for DU and Jake Welsch scored two runs.
- Will McManaman started game two for Denison and allowed two earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
Denison and Wabash will return to action this Sunday, April 11 when both teams close out the series at Big Red Field in Granville with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Game two will start at approximately 2:30 p.m. Both games will be live video streamed by the Denison Sports Network at
