SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—After a two week hiatus from competition, 17
th ranked Denison men's lacrosse team showed little signs of rust as they cruised to a 22-4 victory over Wittenberg at Edwards-Mauer Field. The win sets the stage for Sunday's regular season finale against Wittenberg at Piper Stadium in Granville.
- Denison (6-1) removed all of the drama early, outscoring the Tigers 7-1 in the first quarter thanks to a hat-trick from Will Kenney and two goals by Ethan Tyack.
- After Wittenberg tied the game at 1-1, Denison went on an 8-0 run that stretched into the early minutes of the second quarter.
- From the 5:30 mark in the second quarter until there was just 40 seconds left in regulation, Denison scored 13 straight goals.
- Sam Asman and Will Kenney led DU with four goals apiece. Luke Fisher and Ethan Tyack chipped in hat-tricks for the Big Red.
- Steven Villacorta was outstanding at the face-off dot, going 21-for-25 with 12 ground balls.
- TJ Spahn posted four saves for Denison while his counterpart, Max Cavellier finished with 14 saves while facing 61 shots.
- Denison outshot Wittenberg 61-20 and doubled up the Tigers on ground balls (43-19).
The rematch is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, May 2 at Piper Stadium. Prior to the game, Denison's senior class will be honored. The Denison Sports Network broadcast will begin at 12:45 p.m.
