Cash’s perfect week garners NCAC accolade

Alex Cash posted a pair of wins on Saturday as #24 Denison knocked off #5 Carnegie Mellon.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison women's tennis was recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon as senior Alex Cash was honored as the NCAC Athlete of the Week following her performance in the Big Red's 7-2 upset victory of fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon this past Saturday in Granville. This also marks Cash's second NCAC Athlete of the Week award during the 2021 season.

Handing the Tartans their first loss of the season (11-1) this past weekend, Cash tallied a perfect 2-0 record across doubles and singles for the No. 24 Big Red as they knocked off CMU, 7-2. In doubles play, the nation's 19th-ranked duo of Cash and Hannah Cianciola opened the day with an 8-6 top-flight victory over Carnegie Mellon's Lindy Cornwall and Megan Qiang. Cash finished her day in No. 2 singles when she posted a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Bin Zheng, the 32nd-ranked singles player in all of NCAA Division III. Saturday's victory marked Denison's first win over CMU since March 6, 2011 when the Big Red defeated the Tartans, 5-4, to place third overall at the 2011 ITA Indoor Championships.

A native of New Albany, Ohio, Cash closed out the 2021 regular season with an overall singles record of 5-4, while going 8-2 overall on the doubles courts, including a 7-2 mark with Cianciola.

The Big Red ended the regular season with a record of 7-3 overall and 4-2 in NCAC East divisional play.
