GRANVILLE, Ohio- Denison baseball lit up the scoreboard with a pair of victories over DePauw University on Senior Day. The Big Red took game one, which was a NCAC West divisional game, 17-1, and followed that with a non-league 13-3 win in game two. The Big Red is 17-8 and 9-3 in conference play.
GAME 1
- Denison opened with a bang, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first, giving the game's opener, Caleb Struewing, plenty of breathing room.
- Brian McAuliffe blasted a 2-run homer to right field after Jake Welsch reached base on an error to start the game. After the Big Red batted around, McAuliffe added a two-run single to right to cap off the eight-run first.
- McAuliffe wasn't finished. He followed with another 2-run moonshot to right field in the third, for his second multi-home run game in eight days. He finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, six RBI and two runs scored.
- Fellow senior Will Krushena was 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer to left field in the fifth inning.
- Struewing picked up the win as he pitched the first two innings, striking out three while scattering two hits. Henry Haack worked three scoreless innings. Jarret Hyder and George Viebrock closed out the game.
GAME 2
- Kenny Lippman was the starting pitcher in the second tilt and he allowed two earned runs in six innings while striking out a season-high 10 to pick up his first win of the season. Jack Arnstein and Cole Weiss combined to work a scoreless seventh inning to close the game.
- McAuliffe's bat remained red-hot as he was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in game two.
- Charlie Glennon got the start behind the plate and he was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. His day was highlighted by a 2-run home run to left in the second inning.
- Krushena, Max Lahn, and Danny Alvarez all posted multi-hit games in the nightcap.
- In his last nine games, which includes the four-game series vs. Case Western Reserve and the five-game series versus DePauw, McAuliffe is batting .455 (15-for-33), with seven home runs, five doubles, 21 RBI, 14 runs scored and a gaudy 1.242 slugging percentage.
Denison returns to action on Thursday when they open a critical NCAC West four-game series with second-place Wittenberg. Denison currently sits in first place at 9-3. The Tigers are 7-4 in divisional play. Game one on Thursday will begin at 5 p.m. at Big Red Field.
