Big Red bats erupt in win over DePauw

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison baseball accounted for 10 runs in the first two innings as the Big Red posted a 13-4 conference win over DePauw University on Saturday afternoon at Big Red Field in Granville. Game two of the schedule doubleheader was canceled due to weather.
  • After the Tigers opened the game with an early 1-0 lead, the Big Red bats came alive in the home half of the first when Denison added four runs on five hits, including a pair of RBI doubles from Daniel Spencer and Ty Robinson. Max Lahn also added a run-scoring single to left as the Big Red took a 4-1 lead after one.
  • Denison's offense continued to flourish in the second when they drove home six runs on five hits. Lahn, Will Krushena, and Anthony Ruggieri each recorded RBI singles in the inning while Ty Robinson added a two-run double to his impressive day. The Big Red led 10-1 after two innings.
  • Following a pair of runs from DePauw in the top of the fourth, Denison took a double-digit lead in the home half thanks to a run scored from Krushena and a two-run double from Patrick Neenan, giving the Big Red a 13-3 advantage.
  • The Tigers added another run in the fifth, but no further damage was done as Denison improved to 15-8 overall and 8-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The loss sent DePauw to 12-15 and 5-6 in the NCAC.
  • Denison starter Will McManaman earned the win for the Big Red after he allowed three earned runs over six innings of work with eight strikeouts on 91 pitches. The win sent McManaman to 2-1 on the season.
  • Neenan went 3-for-4 for the Big Red with two RBI and a run scored. Robinson led the team with three RBI in the game while Lahn, Krushena, and Dylan Hunter also added multi-hit performances on the day. Every starter in the Big Red batting order tallied at least one hit in the game.
Denison and DePauw will square off once again on Sunday, April 25 when the Tigers return to Granville for a doubleheader with the Big Red beginning at 12 p.m. Game one of the doubleheader will qualify as a conference game and game two will still be non-conference. Both games will have a live video broadcast courtesy of the Denison Sports Network.
