WOOSTER, Ohio – Thanks to six total home runs on the day, No. 25 Denison baseball rebounded from Saturday's doubleheader losses to Wooster to take both games from the No. 23 Scots on Sunday afternoon, 11-9 and 13-8, at Art Murray Field in Wooster.
Game 1
- Looking to avenge a pair of losses from Saturday in Granville, the Big Red broke free from a 4-0 deficit in the top of the fifth when Gavin Thompson and Dylan Hunter connected for a pair of RBI base hits and helped DU put together five runs in the inning and take a 5-4 lead entering the home half of the fifth.
- After Wooster added three more runs in the fifth to take a 7-5 advantage, Denison bounced back in the sixth when senior Max Lahn opened the inning with a home run down the right field line. Hunter followed with his third RBI of the day and Cameron Brickley notched a two-run single to left as the Big Red recaptured the lead at 9-7.
- The Scots refused to go away after adding two runs in the home half of the sixth to tie the game at 9-9 entering the final inning of play. Despite the comeback from Wooster, the Big Red kept momentum in their corner when senior Will Krushena launched a two-run homer to right field and gave the lead right back to DU, 11-9.
- Senior pitcher Caleb Struewing took care of business in the bottom of the seventh with three-straight outs for his first win of the season as Denison secured their first win of the weekend over the Scots and improved to 4-3 on the season. Wooster dropped to 5-2.
- Krushena led the DU bats with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate with two RBI, three runs, and a home run. Hunter posted a team-best three runs batted in and Lahn and Brian McAuliffe each went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Game 2
- The Denison bats stayed hot in the opening inning of game two as the Big Red accounted for five runs on six hits, including a trio of home runs from Hunter, McAuliffe, and Danny Alvarez.
- Also adding a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings, the DU offense tacked on three more runs in the fifth frame when Hunter, Krushena, and Anthony Ruggieri all scored for Denison and built the Big Red lead to 12-4 after five.
- Denison starting pitcher Kenny Lippman surrendered four runs in the first, but then held the Scots' batters scoreless through the next one and two-thirds innings of work. Lippman finished the day with four runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
- Wooster added four more runs in the fifth behind a pair of RBI doubles from Alex Gasper and Ben Hines, but the Big Red held off Wooster for the remainder of the game to even the season series with the Scots and move to 5-3. The loss dropped Wooster to the same at 5-3.
- Denison turned in 13 total hits in game two, highlighted by multi-hit outings from Lahn, Krushena, Hunter, McAuliffe, and Jake Welsch. The Big Red finished game two with four home runs and combined for six home runs on the day, including two from Lahn.
Denison will return to action next Thursday, April 1 when they welcome Ohio Wesleyan University to Big Red Field for a conference-opening doubleheader with the Bishops. Game 1 is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and game two will start at approximately 6:30 p.m.
