Wooster Takes Rd. 1 in Battle of Ranked Teams

In the much anticipated four-game series between two of the North Coast Athletic Conference's nationally ranked teams, the College of Wooster took round one after a doubleheader sweep at Big Red field.  No. 23 Wooster posted an 11-6 win in game one and a 14-0 victory in game two against No. 25 Denison.

Game 1
  • Denison had a 6-2 lead through five innings but Wooster scored the game's final nine runs to come away with the 11-6 win.
  • Will Krushena blasted a 3-run homer in the third inning to give Denison a 4-1 lead. It was the 12 home run of his career.
  • In the top of the seventh, Wooster scored three runs to force extra-innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Denison put the potential winning run on second, but Wooster worked out of the jam.
  • In the top of the eighth, Wooster scored five runs on three hits with the biggest blow being a bases loaded double by Tyler Chumita to break the 6-6 tie.
  • Denison starting pitcher Taylor Perrett got the start and allowed two earned runs while striking out five in 5.0 innings pitched.

Game 2
  • Wooster took a 2-0 lead after the first but piled on with four runs in the second and five in the third to take an 11-0 lead.
  • Wooster senior starter Jay DiBacco pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout. He struck out six and walked only two in seven innings pitched.
  • Denison's two hits came off the bat of Daniel Spencer and Max Lahn.
The Big Red drop to 3-3 while Wooster improves to 5-1. The two teams will meet again on Sunday at Art Murray Field in Wooster, Ohio. No visiting team spectators are permitted at the game. The College of Wooster will provide live video beginning at 12 p.m.
