DELAWARE, Ohio-
Pat Kramer connected on a 28-yard field goal with 27 seconds left to lead Denison to a thrilling 38-37 win over Ohio Wesleyan University from Selby Stadium.
Kramer's game-winner came after Ohio Wesleyan kicker Gabe Philhower booted a 43-yard field goal with 5:21 remaining to put the Battling Bishops on top, 37-35. Denison took over on their own 22 yard line and Dawkins quickly moved them into OWU territory after completions to
DJ Johnson and
Peyton Vining. On 3
rd and 3 from the OWU 11, Dawkins' pass was batted down, forcing a field goal attempt by Kramer.Â
Ohio Wesleyan did have one last gasp when Zan Ries' Hail Mary throw from midfield was batted down by a Denison defender in the end zone as time expired.
- Denison junior quarterback Drew Dawkins was 19-of-29 for 235 yards and 3 TDs. He also carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards.
- Junior running back Andrew Blanchard posted his first career 100-yard rushing game as he toted the ball 23 times for 127 yards. The Big Red outgained OWU 260-86 on the ground.
- Senior wide receiver Peyton Vining led DU with six receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. He also totaled 138 yards on six kickoff returns.
- The Big Red defense was led by Ryan Hallinan and Chris Negrete who totaled nine tackles apiece. Clay Denstorff had DU's lone sack.
- Kramer's field goal was the 25th of his career which tied Conor Dunn '17 for the most in program history.
Denison improves to 1-0 while Ohio Wesleyan drops to 0-2. The Big Red will close out its mini spring season on Saturday, April 3 when they host Wittenberg University at 5 p.m. at Piper Stadium.
