GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's basketball suffered a 62-41 loss to the seventh-ranked DePauw Tigers on Thursday evening at Livingston Gymnasium in Granville.
Despite a third quarter performance that saw the Big Red hold their deficit to six points with one quarter to play, the Tigers took control in the final frame after shooting 57 percent from the field and 3-for-5 from three to outscore Denison 21-6 in the fourth.
Entering the fourth, a pair of made free throws from sophomore
Gabby Elliott and a layup from
Natalie Hutras cut the Tiger lead to four, 43-39, with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. With Denison trailing 48-41, DePauw closed out the final six minutes of action with 13 unanswered points to push the Tigers to 3-0 on the season. The Big Red dropped to 0-3 so far in 2021.
Sophomore
Mikaila Carpenter led the Big Red with 12 points while adding four rebounds. Hutras followed with nine points and five rebounds, while Elliott chipped in eight points.
DePauw's Emma LeMasters scored a game-high 17 points, including 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Hayley Cange posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, and Maeve Summerville added 11 points and eight rebounds.
The two teams will square off again on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Neal Fieldhouse on the campus of DePauw University. That game is also closed to spectators. It will be
streamed live by DePauw beginning at 3 p.m.
