Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wynn, Carpenter lead Big Red to win in conference opener

GRANVILLE, Ohio (December 1, 2021) – Juniors Hannah Wynn and Mikaila Carpenter both recorded double-doubles as the Denison University women's basketball team started a stretch of three straight North Coast Athletic Conference games at home with a 68-58 victory over the College of Wooster in its first conference game of the 2021-22 season.

Wynn netted a new career-high in both points (16) and rebounds (13) to record her first career double-double while Carpenter finished with 14 points and 14 boards to notch her second double-double of the season.

Sophomore Cara Harty also reached double figures in scoring for the first time in her career with 12 points, and Molly Fisher added seven points while Isa Contreras finished with six points and a game-high three assists.

As evidenced by the double-doubles, Denison (2-5 overall, 1-0 NCAC) dominated the boards 57-36, including 20-9 on the offensive glass, which led to a 20-3 advantage on second chance points. It was the 25th consecutive win for Denison over Wooster (1-6, 0-1).

The Big Red led the game 7-0 and led by as many as eight points in the first quarter (15-7 with 3:54 left) before the Fighting Scots came back to tie it at 17-17 25 seconds into the second quarter.

From there, the lead changed for the first time in the game on a 3-pointer by Wooster exactly one minute into the second quarter, but then it changed for the last time as Wynn answered with a 3-pointer of her own to make it 22-20.

Harty followed that up with another 3-pointer on Denison's next possession, and then yet another three by Harty made it a 10-point lead at 38-28 with less than a minute left before halftime.

Denison never let Wooster get closer than to within four the rest of the way while expanding its lead to 12 (66-54) on two free throws by Wynn in the final 1:30 of the game.

Next up, Denison will continue its three-game homestand against conference opponents by hosting Ohio Wesleyan University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, before wrapping up the homestand against Hiram College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8.
