UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio (November 23, 2021) – The Denison University women's basketball team lost 93-47 at No. 8 John Carroll University on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break.
Denison (1-4 overall) was led by
Mikaila Carpenter with 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 mark from the free throw line.
Hannah Wynn was next with eight points, a team-high seven rebounds, and three steals.
John Carroll (4-0) scored at least 20 points in all four quarters, outrebounded the Big Red 52-26 overall and 20-9 on the offensive glass, and had 18 steals on 22 Denison turnovers. The Blue Streaks outscored the Big Red 46-18 in the paint, 27-8 in points off turnovers, and 24-11 on second chance points.
The Big Red trailed 21-8 after the first quarter as John Carroll shot exactly 50 percent (8-16) from the field while Denison was only 3-for-16 (18.8 percent). Then in the second quarter, JCU was even better, shooting 58.8 percent (10-17) while Denison was 6-for-17 (35.3 percent). The Blue Streaks doubled up the Big Red at 44-22 at the half.
Denison was also 0-for-9 from three in the first half, but then hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter and one in the fourth, all from four different players.
After the Thanksgiving holiday, Denison will have a rematch against Case Western Reserve University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, in Cleveland, Ohio. During the first meeting this year between the two teams only three days ago (Nov. 20), the Big Red earned a 79-74 victory to pick up their first win of the season.
