Ginell runs personal best time, finishes top-100 at NCAA Division III Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (November 20, 2021) – Denison University senior Keanan Ginell capped off his Big Red cross country career on Saturday by running a new personal best and placing 93rd out of 289 total runners at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championship from E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.

keanan-ginell-cross-country-national-championshipGinell ran a personal record 8k time of 24:47.8, 29 seconds faster than his previous season-best time of 25:16.8 last time out at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, and was the 14th fastest runner from the Great Lakes Region.

Throughout the 8k race, Ginell passed through with times of 3:10.5 (161st) after 1k, 9:13.3 (100th) after 3k, 12:24.0 (96th) after 4k, 15:39.8 (98th) after 5k, and 19:47.5 (96th) after 6.4k before gaining three spots in the final 1.6k.

In addition to finishing top-100 at nationals, Ginell finished his senior season with four individual meet championships, including the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, three NCAC Athlete of the Week awards, the title of NCAC Runner of the Year, and first-team all-conference and all-region recognition.

The individual winner of the race was Alex Phillip of John Carroll University, who posted a time of 23:27.6, 1:20.2 ahead of Ginell. The team championship went to Pomona-Pitzer, which finished with a team score of 80 and put five runners in the top-26.

Next up for Ginell and the rest of the Big Red will be the indoor track & field season, which starts on Saturday, December 4, with the Tiger Open hosted by Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
