Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

McIntosh’s game winner leads men’s soccer to third win in a row

OBERLIN, Ohio (October 19, 2021) – Freshman Cameron McIntosh scored his fourth goal of the season in the 79th minute to break a 1-1 tie and send the Denison University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win on the road at Oberlin College.

In what began as a battle of two teams both looking for their third straight win in North Coast Athletic Conference action, it was Denison (8-4-1 overall, 4-2 NCAC) that pulled it out despite Oberlin (5-7-3, 3-2-1) scoring first.

Oberlin outshot Denison 5-2 in the first half and then wasted very little time getting on the scoreboard less than four minutes into the second half.

The Big Red, however, stayed with it and found the equalizer 13 minutes later as junior Ethan Miracle found freshman Jake Krueger for his second goal in three matches.

In the 71st minute, Dylan Brown kept the score knotted up with an awesome save diving to his right on a penalty kick by the Yeoman.

Then in the 73rd minute, a corner kick by Luca Vicinelli led to a header by Luke Mattessich that was saved, and then the loose ball in front of the goal was shot just high by Rohan Tripathy.

Miracle fired a shot high in both the 78th and 79th minutes, and then McIntosh's game winner came a little bit over 30 seconds after that thanks to a misplay by the Oberlin goalkeeper. It was McIntosh's first goal since scoring twice back on September 11.

With the 2-1 lead, Brown's work was not done for the night as Oberlin nearly tied it again in the 89th minute before Brown's sixth save of the match.

In the end, Oberlin held a narrow lead in both shots (13-12) and shots on goal (7-6), and led 7-2 on corner kicks.

Head Coach Brandon Bianco said, "Another huge conference win. We weren't at the standard we hoped for tonight, but to come back on the road and grind this one out was an important marker for this group. We look forward to our final home game Saturday and honoring our seniors."

Now, Denison will try and keep its momentum going for Senior Day at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, against Wittenberg University on Barclay-Thomsen Field.
