Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Denison softball team closed out the weekend with a pair of 2-0 losses to Transylvania and Centre on Sunday.
The only runs in the opening game came in the top of the fifth inning. After Alyssa Nunn opened the inning with a double, Abby Frazier plated the eventual game-winning run with a triple. Allyson O'Dell followed with a base hit that double the Pioneers' lead to 2-0.
Frazier finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Nunn and Taylor Stamps each registered two hits for Transy. Leadoff hitter Claire Powell went 2-for-3 with a triple for DU, while Maggie Ballentine also had a base hit.
Taryn Welch (0-2) took the loss after giving up 11 hits and striking out five across seven innings of work. Kameron Bowling (2-0) scattered three hits and fanned 11.
Like game one, Centre's two-run sixth was all the Colonels needed to pick up the victory. Sarah Aubuchon drove in the game-winning run with a base hit to center that scored Brylin Isaacs. Centre's insurance run came in the form of Melissa Collins who scored on a defensive miscue.
Noelle Chovanec (0-2) had a strong outing both at the plate and inside the circle for Denison. The freshman went 2-for-3 at the plate, while also scattering three hits and allowing one earned run with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Powell (single and a walk) and Abby Stallcup (two walks) also reached base safely on two separate occasions.
The Big Red (0-4) returns to action next Sunday (March 8) when they travel to Hanover for a doubleheader. Game one of the twinbill is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
