THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Denison softball rounded out their spring trip to California on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep at Cal Lutheran University, defeating the Regals 6-4 in game one and 11-4 in game two.

The sweep was highlighted in the second game where the Big Red blew up for a new program record of 22 hits and tallied 11 runs. The previous record was 21 hits set on April 18, 2009, at Oberlin.

Leading 1-0 entering the second inning, the Big Red added to their lead with a three-run double down the left field line from Lindsey Clemson to score Sam Kline, Emilie Fisher, and Marrae Saucedo. In the next at-bat, Amanda Howell drove home Clemson on a single to left, giving Denison a 5-0 lead entering the third.

RBI base hits from Saucedo and Colleen Hoffman helped DU build an 8-0 advantage before the Regals added two runs in the bottom of the third to make it an 8-2 game.

Kline added an RBI double in the fourth to help the Big Red carry a 10-3 lead into the sixth. Both sides traded runs in the sixth before the Big Red secured the win, 11-4.

In the circle, Taryn Welch earned her second win of the season after going five innings while allowing three earned runs and totalling seven strikeouts. The loss went to CLU's Taryn Faull who allowed seven earned runs in two innings of action.

In game one, the Big Red opened an early 3-0 lead in the first when Clemson tripled to center field, scoring Claire Powell and Fisher. In the next at-bat, Howell scored Clemson on a sacrifice fly to right.

In the top of the third, Brennah Dutcher launched an RBI single to left that scored Clemson and gave the Big Red a 4-0 lead.

After the Regals tied the game in the fifth at 4-4 led by a two-run double from Lexie Findley, Denison rebounded in the seventh when Saucedo reached first on an error with the bases loaded and Dutcher scored to retake the lead.

In the next at-bat, Sarah Hamre added DU's second run of the inning with an RBI single through the left side, scoring Laura Bagan and building a 6-4 advantage entering the home half of the inning.
