Box Score ENGLEWOOD, Fla.-- Denison took No. 9 Trinity (Conn.) to the brink before falling to the Bantams, 14-10 to open spring break play in Florida.
The Big Red held a 7-5 lead at halftime thanks to a 3-0 run over the final six minutes of the first half. Molly Fischer scored off a pair of free-position shots and Kiely Noonan scored on a pass from Colleen Muldoon with one minute left in the period to take a two-goal lead into the intermission.
In the second half, Trinity's Lillanna Khosrowshaki scored three consecutive goals in the first five minutes of the half to put her squad on top by one. After a goal by Sophie Berger with 24 minutes remaining put Trinity on top by two, it was time for the Big Red to rally. Quick-strike goals from Casey McTague and Liza Farnham on eight-meter attempts tied the game at 9-9 with 15:40 left.
Over the final 14 minutes, the Bantams controlled draws and converted on the offensive end. They outscored the Big Red 5-1 over that span to lock up the victory.
Khosrowshahi led Trinity with four goals and one assist and Olivia Weckwerth notched a hat trick.
Fischer led Denison with four goals on seven shot attempts. Lindsey Karsh scored twice and Muldoon led DU with two assists. Jane Goodspeed led the Big Red defense with six ground balls, five draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
Hannah Magarian faced 22 shots and posted eight saves in the cage for DU. Her counterpart, Gabriella Young, finished with five saves.
Trinity held a 25-21 advantage in shots and a 24-22 advantage in ground balls. The Bantams took 13 of 25 draws and both squads committed 20 turnovers.
Denison drops to 2-3 on the season while Trinity improves to 5-0
The Big Red returns to action at the Spring Fling in Englewood, Florida on Wednesday (March 20) at 5 p.m. vs. SUNY-Geneseo.
