Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio -- Senior Kristin Thewes is now tied for fifth on Denison's all-time digs list as the Big Red defeated the College of Wooster, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-15) on Wednesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.
Thewes totaled her 17th dig in the final set of play as she tied Christi Clay (1990-1993) for fifth on the all-time digs list at Denison with 1,885. Thewes now sits behind Holly Leonard (2006-2009) who holds 2,054 career digs.
Tied at 10-10 in the first set, the Big Red put together a 7-1 scoring run led by back-to-back services aces from Thewes and multiple kills from Isabella Pivec. A kill from Leah Reinfranck ended the set, 25-22, and gave an early 1-0 lead to DU.
In the second set, consecutive kills from freshman Emma Woerner and service aces by Julia Miller launched Denison out to an early 9-1 advantage. Three straight kills from Ksenia Klue helped Wooster climb back in the set, only trailing the Big Red 22-20.
Reinfranck, Woerner and Kathryn Boyd totaled the next three kills for Denison, putting DU up two sets to none after the 25-22 victory.
The Big Red outscored the Scots 15-5 to end the third and final set, thanks to seven combined kills from Woerner and freshman Kaila Kasper as DU finished the sweep and secured the 3-0 victory.
Woerner led the match with 14 kills, and contributed 13 digs. Pivec finished second on the team with 11 kills, while Thewes recorded a match-best 17 digs.
The Big Red will stay on the road this Saturday, Oct. 28 as they look to round out their regular season with a tri-match at Muskingum University. Denison will take on John Carroll University at 2 p.m., before matching up with the Muskies at 4 p.m.
