Box Score 2 The Big Red volleyball team went 1-1 with the co-hosts of this weekend's Capital/Otterbein Invitational. Denison took down host Capital, 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20), before falling to Otterbein in four sets (25-21, 13-25, 25-19, 27-25) on Saturday in Bexley, Ohio.
Against the Crusaders, senior Rachele Lock stuffed the stats sheet, leading the team with 16 kills and three aces to go along with 10 digs. Leah Reinfranck registered nine finishers, while freshman Katie Aucamp and sophomore Isabella Pivec each had seven. Reinfranck also had seven digs and four total blocks, while Pivec logged four block assists. The setting tandem of junior Kaileigh Poe and sophomore Julia Miller combined for 39 of the team's 41 assists with Poe leading the way with 26 helpers. Junior Kristen Brennan anchored the defense with 15 digs.
Reinfranck was the offensive leader against the Cardinals with 11 kills and two aces to go along with three block assists. Pivec finished the match with nine finishers and six block assists, while the versatile Lock had eight kills, two aces and 12 digs. Poe handed out 24 assists and logged 13 digs. Junior Kristin Thewes paced the defense with 28 digs while freshman Alex Tubbs had six total rejections.
Denison (2-1) continues its stretch of road matches on Wednesday (Sept. 7) at Marietta. Start time at Ban Johnson Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
