Denison rolls into NCAC Tournament Semis

The 22nd-ranked Big Red women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament following a 5-0 victory over eighth-seeded Wooster on Friday.

Denison swept doubles play to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the match. Junior Olivia Underwood and senior Frances Hinkamp pitched a shutout at the third flight, winning with an 8-0 score. The No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Emma Alsup and Ashley Hammons followed suit with an 8-1 decision over Anne-Sophie Haanen and Elizabeth Brewington.

In the top doubles flight, the pairing of senior Meg Chiumento and freshman Lauren Hawley improved to 13-4 on the year following an 8-2 win over Rachel Mole and Morgan Wagers. The duo's victory extends their winning streak to a team-best five matches.

In singles play, freshman Megan Hickey extended the Big Red's lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fourth flight. The match came to an end when senior Eleni Coleman finalized a straight-set shutout at No. 6 singles for her second win of the season.

Denison moves to 12-7 on the year, while Wooster falls to 3-18. The Big Red will take on fourth-seeded Oberlin in tomorrow's semifinal clash, while the Scots will battle Wittenberg in the seventh-place match. Tomorrow's semifinal matches are scheduled to start at 4 p.m., while the seventh-place match will tentatively begin at 2 p.m.
