Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Big Red softball team extended their current winning streak to six games following a twinbill sweep at Oberlin on Thursday at Culhane Field in Oberlin, Ohio. Denison won both games in six innings, taking the opener 13-0 and the nightcap 11-2.

After two hitless innings in the opener, the Big Red started the top of the third with back-to-back singles from Ryan Lee and Mckinly Vazquez. Denison loaded the bases when Oberlin pitcher Kat Ladouceur was unsuccessful in trying to retire Lee at third base. With one out, junior Kerry Hager drove a ball through the left side that scored Lee. Sophomore Lauren Secaras with a ground out to short that allowed Vazquez to touch the dish. With two runners in scoring position and two outs, freshman Amanda Howell dropped a single into left that scored Sarah Herold and Hager, giving DU a 4-0 lead.

The Big Red added two more runs in the fourth and set the table for the run-rule victory with a 7-run sixth inning. DU's seven runs came on five hits and three Oberlin errors. Herold was lights out inside the circle, surrendering just two hits while striking out a career-high tying eight batters en route to her fifth-career shutout.

Freshman Laura Bagan went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run, while Secaras and Howell each finished with two RBIs. Herold, Hager, Secaras, Lee and Vazquez all scored twice for DU, while the Big Red's lone senior, Annie McAuliffe, picked up her first hit and RBI of the season when she drove in Herold with a pinch-hit double in the sixth.

In game two, Denison opened the game with seven unanswered runs to grab an early lead through three and a half innings. The big blow came in the third when DU scored five times on just two hits. Howell drew a walk with the bases loaded, while Bagan cleared the bags with a triple to center. Lee drove in the freshman with an infield single. The Yeowomen answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but a four-run sixth secured the Big Red's second run-rule win of the day. Hager, Howell and Bagan all drove in a run, while Howell scored the fourth run of the inning on a passed ball.

Freshman Colleen Hoffman picked up her second win of the year after tossing three scoreless innings, surrendering three hits while striking out two. Junior Erin Laswell earned a save after pitching the final three innings, giving up one earned run on two hits with two Ks. Hager finished with three hits, two RBIs and a run, while Bagan drove in a game-high four runs on two hits. Herold scored three times and swiped a bag, while Vazquez, Secaras and Howell each scored twice.

Denison improves to 15-9 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the NCAC, while Oberlin falls to 1-24 and 0-6 in league play. The Big Red returns home on Saturday (April 16) for a doubleheader against Wittenberg. Game one is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
