Box Score 2 HIRAM, Ohio -- The Big Red volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Hiram College. Denison suffered a 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19) setback to the host Terriers, before rebounding with a straight-set victory (25-19, 25-7, 25-13) over the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.
In North Coast Athletic Conference action against Hiram, senior Rachele Lock led the offense with 14 kills to go along with 12 digs, while junior Leah Reinfranck added 11 finishers and four total blocks. The setting tandem of Kaileigh Poe and Julia Miller combined for 34 or the team's 37 assists, while libero Kristin Thewes served up three aces. The junior libero also paced the defense with 17 digs, while three of Reinfranck's four blocks were solo rejections.
Against the UPG Bobcats, Denison cruised to a three-set win after battling some adversity in the opening set. The Big Red posted an impressive .478 attacking percentage as a team in the second-set victory, while holding Pitt-Greensburg to a -.136 clip. Lock posted 10 kills against the Bobcats, while junior Kathlyn Craigie hit .667 with six kills in nine attempts in two sets played. Poe and Miller recorded 13 assists apiece, while Reinfranck had three aces. Thewes paced the defense with 20 digs, while Alex Tubbs and five total blocks.
The Big Red moves to 8-12 overall and 1-2 in NCAC play following the split. Denison returns to action on Wednesday when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
