Denison earns 3-1 win at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Big Red volleyball team capped off North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-18) victory at Oberlin on Wednesday night. With the win, Denison evened their conference record at 4-4.

After dropping the opening set by four points, the Big Red responded with a dominating 25-14 victory in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. In that second set, DU forced the Yeowomen into seven miscues while also serving up five aces and hammering down eight kills. The two squads played a tight third set that eventually resulted in a three-point victory for the Big Red before a 25-18 decision in the fourth secured the Denison win.

Junior Leah Reinfranck paced the DU offense with 13 kills, while senior Rachele Lock added eight finishers to go along with nine digs and two aces. Freshman Alex Tubbs recorded seven kills and five total blocks, while sophomore Isabella Pivec provided six kills and logged two block assists. The setting duo of Kaileigh Poe and Julia Miller had 16 assists apiece. Defensively, junior libero Kristin Thewes registered 25 digs. Thewes also served up two aces.

Oberlin's Lexi Mitchell finished with a match-high 18 kills, while also leading the Yeowomen with three aces and 14 digs. Meredith Leung handed out 18 assists, while Sara Chang and Maggie Middleton had three blocks each.

Denison (11-14) will wrap up the regular season this Saturday (Oct. 29) with a neutral site match at Wooster against Case Western Reserve. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
