Denison splits at Hanover tri-match

The Denison volleyball team opened play on Saturday afternoon with a three-set win (30-28, 25-16, 25-12) over St. Mary-of-the-Woods before dropping a 3-0 decision (25-14, 26-24, 26-24) to Hanover at the Collier Arena in Hanover, Ind.

Against the Pomeroys, senior Elena Lein and freshman Olivia Buroker each recorded nine kills in three sets, while sophomore Leah Reinfranck and junior Rachele Lock had eight apiece. Reinfranck also led the team with a .727 attack percentage after picking up her eight kills in 11 attempts.

Sophomore Kaileigh Poe dished out 38 assists, while Lock served up three of the squad's six aces. Defensively, sophomore libero Kristin Thewes and Buroker registered 13 and 12 digs, respectively, while Lein and senior Kenzie Kuhn each had two blocks.

Against the host Panthers, Lock paced the offense with eight kills, while her 12 digs were the most on the team. Buroker had six kills, while Lein and Kuhn each notched five. Poe and freshman Lexie Seward combined for 24 assists. Poe also logged nine digs, while Lein finished with six total blocks. Kuhn also recorded five block assists.

Denison (5-3) returns home to host Marietta on Wednesday (Sept. 16) at 7 p.m.
