The Big Red did not drop a game as they cruised past the Wittenberg Tigers, 9-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division tilt on Tuesday in Springfield, Ohio.
Denison took the early lead by posting 8-0 victories at all three doubles flights. Junior Taylor Hawkins and Meg Chiumento ended a three-match skid with a win over Rayika Karachiwalla and Georgia Bennett. With the win, the duo improved to 8-6 at the top flight. Senior Heather Abzug and freshman Courtney Brown earned a victory over Meghan Depew and Lexi Garza at No. 2 doubles, while junior Eleni Coleman and Sarah Torrence picked up a win over Trista Davis and Kaelee Tobin at third doubles.
Hawkins, Brown and Chiumento were all 6-0, 6-0 winners at first, second and third singles, respectively. Hawkins has now won four-straight at No. 1 singles, while Chiumento is currently riding a five-match winning streak in singles action. With her win, Brown improved to 11-5 overall and 10-5 at the second flight.
The Big Red juggled their lineup at fourth through sixth singles as Torrence, Abzug and Wittenberg Tiger Olivia Underwood. Torrence and Abzug both moved to 2-0 at No. 4 and 5, respectively, while Underwood defeated Jessica Harting at the sixth flight.
Denison improves to 13-6 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC West, while the Tigers fall to 1-9 and 0-3 in the division. The Big Red will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a home match against Case Western Reserve. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
