Box Score 2 Denison dropped a pair of games at Kenyon on Tuesday in Gambier, Ohio. The Ladies won game one 7-5 and the second 6-0.
In the opener, the Big Red erased an early two-run deficit in the fourth when freshman Lauren Secaras belted her fourth home run of the season. Mckinly Vazquez came around to score on the Secaras homer. Kenyon broke the tie in the bottom of the inning with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Denison shrunk the deficit in the fifth with three more runs.
With the bases loaded and one out, sophomore Kerry Hager blasted a double to center that scored Vazquez, Julie Rooney and Emily Lipsitz. Down 7-5 heading into the seventh, the Big Red were able to load the bases once again with just one out. However, the Ladies were able to turn a 5-2-3 double play that brought the game to an end.
Four of the Big Red's eight hits in game one were extra-base knocks. Hager, Laswell and Mounts all had doubles, while Secaras left the yard. Hager and Secaras combined for DU's five RBIs, while Vazquez scored two times. Secaras took the loss inside the circle after giving up six runs on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
In game two, Kenyon grabbed the early lead thank to a five-run second inning. The home team added a sixth in the fifth inning to complete the final score. Rooney, Secaras, Laswell, Ryan Lee and Mounts were responsible for Denison's five hits. Laswell suffered the loss after allowing six runs on 11 hits in four innings of work. Secaras toss two hitless innings in relief, striking out two and walking one.
Denison (10-14, 2-4 NCAC) will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday when they host at NCAC doubleheader against Oberlin. Game one is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
