Denison and DePauw squared off in a battle of two nationally ranked teams and the Tigers would leave Granville with a 6-3 win over the Big Red.
The matchup was not only critical in terms of North Coast Athletic Conference divisional standings, but it also was important to the central regional rankings. Denison entered the match ranked No. 25 in the country and No. 5 in the region. DePauw is No. 14 in the nation and No. 2 in the region.
The Tigers made a strong statement, winning all three doubles points, 8-3, 8-1 and 8-3.
In singles, Denison's Taylor Hawkins posted a big win at No. 1 by defeating Claire Marshall 6-3, 6-4. The win was an upset for Hawkins who entered ranked 11th in the region while Marshall was fourth.
Denison's other regionally ranked player, Courtney Brown, suffered a three-set loss to Maggie McPhail, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The Big Red would log its final two points at No. 3 and 4 singles as Meg Chiumento defeated Julie Wittwer, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and Rochell Issa topped Kaitlin Pickrel, 6-2, 6-3.
Denison falls to 12-6 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC west. They will close out divisional conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Wittenberg for a 4:30 p.m. match with the Tigers.
