Box Score 2 The DePauw Tigers improved to 4-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play following a doubleheader sweep of the Big Red on Tuesday in Greencastle, Ind. The Tigers took the opener 5-0 and won game two 9-0 in five innings.
After three and a half scoreless innings in game one, the Tigers pushed a run across thanks to a double and a costly error in the fourth. Linsey Button led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Button came around to score an unearned run on a misplayed ball at second. DePauw went on to add two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings en route to the victory.
Tiger pitcher Kahla Nolan held DU hitters to two hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Button finished with two hits, an RBI and a run, while Morgan McCord had a hit and scored twice.
Senior Julie Rooney and freshman Marlie Mounts registered the Big Red's two hits, while sophomore Lindsey Kenyon threw out a career-high three base runners, which tied the school record achieved on three other occasions. Kenyon currently has the sixth-best runners caught stealing total with nine, while her 14 career base runners thrown out rank her fourth in program history.
In the nightcap, DePauw pitcher Emma Baldwin tossed a complete-game no hitter for her fifth victory of the season. Baldwin finished with four strikeouts and just one walk in five innings of work. Baldwin's performance inside the circle was backed by nine runs over the course of four trips to the plate for the home team. Sammi Bell and Lauren Godden each went 3-for-3 at the dish. Godden drove in five runs and scored two more, while Bell had two RBIs and two runs scored. Julia Waggoner also touched the dish twice for the Tigers.
Denison starter Erin Laswell took the loss after giving up nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits with a walk in four innings.
The Big Red (7-9, 0-2 NCAC) will look to snap their five-game losing streak on Thursday when they host Defiance College. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
