Box Score 2 The Big Red suffered a pair of losses to Ohio Athletic Conference teams in a tri-match held at Muskingum University on Saturday. Denison dropped a 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-19) decision to John Carroll before falling in straight-sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-15) to the host Muskies.
Against the Blue Streaks, junior Rachele Lock led the Denison offense with 10 kills, while senior Brittany Perry added eight finishers. Kaileigh Poe dished out 33 of the team's 35 assists, while Hannah Glick had two of the squad's four service aces. Defensively, sophomore libero Kristin Thewes recorded 28 digs, while classmates Kristen Brennan and Poe had 14 and 11, respectively. At the net, senior Kenzie Kuhn finished with two solo blocks, while Elena Lein had two block assists.
Against Muskingum, Lock paced DU once again with 13 kills to go along with a solo block, while Lein logged seven. Freshman Lexie Seward dished out 21 assists in three sets, while junior Carly Newell had the only ace for the Big Red. Thewes was the defensive leader with 24 digs, while Brennan added 15. Perry led at the net with two block assists.
Denison closes out the regular season with a 13-12 record. The Big Red return to action next weekend at the 2015 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Wittenberg University. DU will enter the postseason tournament as the fifth seed after going 5-3 in conference play. Denison will open the two-day tournament on Friday against fourth-seeded Hiram at 4 p.m.
