The Denison volleyball team suffered a pair of setbacks at a tri-match hosted by Bethany College on Saturday. The Big Red dropped a 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16) decision to Heidelberg before falling to the host Bisons, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17).

Against the Berg, freshman Olivia Buroker led DU with 15 kills to go along with 19 digs. Sophomore Leah Reinfranck chipped in 11 kills and two blocks, while Kaileigh Poe dished out 39 assists and served up two aces. Sophomores Kristin Thewes and Hannah Glick recorded 24 and 13 digs, respectively, while freshman Isabella Pivec had three blocks, highlighted by two solo rejections. Seniors Elena Lein and Brittany Perry also combined for four blocks. Thewes also logged two aces.

Against Bethany, Buroker finished with nine kills, while Reinfranck, Perry, Lein and Pivec each had six finishers. Poe handed out 32 assists, while Buroker had both of Denison's serving aces. Thewes paced the defense with 22 digs, while classmate Kristen Brennan had 10.

Denison (7-8) continues its stretch of non-conference matches on Thursday (Oct. 8) when they host Otterbein for a 7 p.m. match at Livingston Gymnasium.
