Big Red earns 12th win at Wooster

The Denison volleyball team picked up their 12th win of the season following a 3-0 (27-25, 25-12, 25-19) victory at Wooster on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Big Red secured their fifth win in the last six matches.

Denison lead the back-and-forth opening set 25-24, but a kill by the Scots' Savannah Moore tied the match through the first 50 points. Senior Brittany Perry broke the tie with a kill, while Rachele Lock finished the set with the team's 17th kill of the set. As a team, DU hit .375 after committing just five errors in 32 attempts. Sophomore setter Kaileigh Poe also reached a milestone in the first set as she recorded her 1,000th-career assist on a Perry kill that gave Denison a 14-12 lead.

The Big Red took a 2-0 match lead after cruising to a 25-12 win in the second set. In that set, DU posted a match-best .433 attacking percentage with 17 hits and four miscues in 30 attempts. Denison held a 20-11 lead in the final set before shrunk the deficit to five at 23-18. However, kills by senior Elena Lein sent the Big Red to a 25-19 victory.

Denison finished the night with a .343 hitting percentage with 49 kills and 15 errors in 99 tries. Lein led the charge with 16 kills to go along with four blocks, while sophomore Leah Reinfranck and Lock added nine and eight, respectively. The duo also had one block assists each. Poe finished with 43 of the Big Red's 45 assists, while fellow sophomore Hannah Glick served up three aces. Sophomore libero Kristin Thewes and Perry each had nine digs, while Kristen Brennan had five.

Ksenia Klue paced Wooster with eight kills, while Brittany Nicholson handed out 12 assists. Lydia Webster had two aces and three blocks, while Gabrielle Basinski collected eight digs. Like Webster, Anna Emmick and Ashley Plassard also had three blocks.

Denison improves to 12-9 overall and 4-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Fighting Scots fall to 11-12 and 0-7 in the league. The Big Red returns to action on Saturday when they travel to DePauw for a 2 p.m. match.
