Box Score 2 The Denison volleyball team split a pair at Saturday's tri-match hosted by Marietta College. The Big Red fell to the host Pioneers 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21) in the first match, but rebounded with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-10) win over Thiel in the finale.
In the win over the Tomcats, sophomore Rachele Lock posted a team-high 12 kills to go along with four digs and a solo block, while junior Brittany Perry registered eight finishers and four digs. Senior Elsa Manning and freshman Leah Reinfranck recorded six and five kills, respectively. The duo also had a solo rejection apiece. Junior Annemarie Fischer and Elena Lein rounded out play at the net with four kills and two solo blocks each.
Senior Jessica Borsani and freshman Kaileigh Poe combined for 39 assists, while Borsani also served up DU's lone ace of the match. Defensively, senior libero Emily Marguerite logged 20 digs in three sets.
Against Marietta, Reinfranck had a team-best 12 kills, while Lein finished with nine. Lock and Fischer had eight and seven kills, respectively. Borsani finished with 20 assists and an ace, while sophomore Carly Newell dished out 16 helpers and served up two aces. Marguerite paced the defense with 29 digs, while freshman Kristin Thewes added 16. Senior Allie Becker and Newell each chipped in 12 digs apiece.
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith led the Pioneers with 14 kills, while Devin Walter added 12. Laura Mauer handed out 37 assist and logged a solo block and five block assists. Chloe Janson paced Marietta with six block assists. Mary Ervin had two aces and a team-high 28 digs, while Kennedy Clyde recorded 27 digs. Julia Moskaluk also served up two aces for the Pioneers.
Denison moved to 6-7 on the year following the split. The Big Red continues their extensive road trip on Tuesday (Sept. 23) when they travel to Ada, Ohio to take on Ohio Northern. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
