Box Score Denison dropped a 3-1 (10-25, 25-23, 8-25, 21-25) decision at John Carroll on Wednesday night. The Big Red struggled out of the gate against the 7-1 Blue Streaks, suffering a 25-10 loss in the opening set.
DU battled back for a 25-23 win in the second set thanks to four kills by Rachele Lock and three from Brittany Perry. In the second set, JCU committed eight of its 19 errors in the match. Meanwhile, Denison posted 11 kills on 32 attacks.
The third set swung back in the favor of the home team as John Carroll racked up 13 kills via 23 attacks. They did not make an error in the set, resulting in a decisive 25-8 win.
In the fourth and final set, Denison led 18-7, but John Carroll would go on to take eight of the last 11 points to put away the match.
Perry finished with eight kills while hitting 26 percent. Lock led Denison with nine kills and Jessica Borsani ended with 16 assists and one service ace.
Emily Marguerite accounted for 20 of DU's 55 digs and Sarah Bradley chipped in five kills off only 10 attacks in three sets.
The Blue Streaks were led by Julianne McGervey and Leah Switalski who each racked up 15 kills. Kit O'Shaughnessy accumulated 42 assists and Sara Kaminski posted 22 digs.
Denison drops to 2-4 while John Carroll improves to 7-1. The Big Red will travel to Manchester, Ind. for a weekend tournament against Ohio Wesleyan, Wilmington, Albion and the host, Manchester Spartans. That will open on Friday (Sept. 12) and continue through Saturday afternoon.
