The 26th-ranked Big Red women's tennis team improved to 5-5 against regionally-ranked teams following a 6-3 victory over Kalamazoo on Saturday in Granville. With the win, DU improves to 8-7 on the year and 7-2 against the central region.
Denison grabbed the early advantage with victories at two of the three doubles flights. The regionally-ranked team of senior Kelsey Geppner and sophomore Taylor Hawkins notched their 12th win of the season following an 8-3 decision over Sarah Woods and Jenna Riehl. Meg Chiumento and Sarah Torrence extended their current winning streak to four after doubling up Kelsey Moran and Olivia Bouchard, 8-4, at the second flight.
In singles action, Geppner, Chiumento and Torrence all recorded their second wins of the day. In a battle of top-6 players in the central region, sixth-ranked Geppner won a straight-set decision (7-6, 6-3) over fourth-ranked Woods. Chiumento earned her seventh-consecutive win at after handing Riehl a 6-3, 6-1 loss. At No. 5, Torrence won via matching 6-1 scores to earn her fourth-straight victory. The fourth singles victory came at the third flight where Emily Holloway defeated Moran in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
Denison (8-7) wraps up its current three-match homestand on Tuesday when they battle North Coast Athletic Conference West Division foe Wittenberg. Match time is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
