Denison back to .500 after win

Box Score

Denison shrugged off an opening set loss with three-straight victories to defeat Kenyon, 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-12, 25-21) from Tomsich Arena in Gambier, Ohio.  With the win, Denison evens its record to 12-12 overall and 4-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The Big Red jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set but the Ladies came roaring back, setting up a set-point at 24-20.  Kenyon would rattle off four consecutive attack errors, tying things at 24-24.  Kills by Katie Goulder and Rachel Thorson would squash Denison's comeback hopes in the first.

In set number two, Denison ripped through the home team for a 25-15 win.  Nine attack errors combined with only three kills doomed Kenyon in the second.

It was more of the same in the third set as the Big Red prevailed 25-12.  Denison posted its best attack percentage of the four sets, hitting .321 thanks to six kills from Rachele Lock.

In the fourth and final set, Denison held on for the 25-21 win after a ball handling error by the KC setter closed things out.

Lock led all players with 15 kills and a .278 hitting percentage off 36 total attempts.  Elena Lein followed with 10 kills while Leah Reinfranck contributed eight kills.

Emily Marguerite, who had been chasing Denison's all-time leader in digs, Jaime Salay, posted 27 on Saturday to tie the mark set by the DU Hall of Famer (2,155). Marguerite also added three aces in the four-set win.  In addition to Marguerite's 27 digs, Kristin Thewes added 17 and Jessica Borsani chipped in 13 to go along with her team-high 16 assists.

Kenyon was led by Amber Kraus with seven kills and Lauren Kerr with six.

Denison will close out its regular season next Saturday when they take on Case Western Reserve in Wooster, Ohio.
