Tigers rally to knock off Denison

Box Score

After dropping the opening set on Saturday, DePauw rattled off three-straight victories to knock off Denison 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16) on Senior Day at Livingston Gymnasium in Granville.

The Big Red led wire-to-wire in the opening set of the match. The Tigers chipped away at the lead with a mini run that cut the deficit to 24-21. However, DU held on to win the set by four points. Despite falling in the first set, DePauw gained some momentum and went on to win sets two and three despite hitting just .217 and .143, respectively, as a team.  In the fourth-and-final set, the Tigers were on fire as they totaled 15 kills on just 28 attempts with only two miscues en route to a 25-16 win.

Junior Elena Lein and sophomore Leah Reinfranck paced the attack with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. The duo also combined for five solo blocks in the match. Reinfranck and senior libero Emily Marguerite each served up two service aces, while freshman Kaileigh Poe had the other. In the passing game, senior setter Jessica Borsani led the team with 25 assists, while Poe dished out 21 helpers of her own. The setting tandem also had one kill apiece.  Marguerite led the defense with 27 digs, while freshman Kristin Thewes collected 12 digs.

Lauren Falotico recorded a match-high 15 kills, while setter Faith Rolwes proved to be a do-it-all type player. Rolwes finished the contest with 12 kills, 40 assists, 16 digs, two aces and three block assists. Libero Keely McGrath had a team-high 19 digs, while Elisabeth Wilson posted one solo block and five block assists to go along with seven kills.

The loss drops Denison to 10-12 overall and 2-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Tigers move to 20-7 and 5-1 in NCAC play.  The Big Red closes out their homestand on Tuesday (Oct. 21) when they welcome Wooster to Livingston Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. match.

NOTABLE: Prior to the game Denison honored its four senior members, Allie Becker, Jessica Borsani, Elsa Manning and Emily Marguerite.  This senior class has helped the Big Red post 63 wins and a pair of top-four finishes in the North Coast Athletic Conference, including a second-place finish last season.
