Box Score 2 The Denison volleyball team opened the 2013 North Park University Viking Clash with 3-0 victories over Manchester (25-23, 25-14, 25-16) and Marian (Wis.) (25-22, 26-24, 25-23).
Against Manchester, sophomore Elena Lein finished with nine kills, while senior Lauren Gustafson and sophomore Kenzie Kuhn each added seven finishers. Lein and Kuhn also defended the net well with two solo blocks and one block assist each. Additionally, Kuhn also served up a pair of aces. The setting tandem of Jessica Borsani and Carly Newell combined for 31 assists. Borsani finished the three-set match with 17, while Newell added 14 helpers. Defensively, junior libero Emily Marguerite recorded 18 digs, while senior Sarah Blum and Borsani each had nine digs.
Against Marian, Lein paced the team with 10 kills and four solo blocks. Freshman outside hitter Rachele Lock chipped in nine, while Kuhn finished with eight. Newell handed out 20 assists, while Borsani recorded 19. Marguerite paced the defense with 30 of the team's 71 digs.
The Big Red (5-2) will close out play at North Park on Saturday. DU will take on the host Vikings at 11 a.m. EST, before closing out the tournament against St. Mary's (Minn.) at 1 p.m. EST.
