Big Red stymied at DePauw

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DePauw strengthened its hold over the North Coast Athletic Conference standings following Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Big Red in Greencastle, Ind.

The Tigers prevailed in game one, 6-2 and followed with a 2-0 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, Denison trailed 3-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning and that's when DePauw broke the game open with a three-run sixth thanks to a pair of errors by the Denison defense.

The Big Red would add two runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a single down the left field line by Rosie Glaser that scored Grace Finkbiner and Jess Robertson.  With runners on first and second, DePauw pitcher Emily Bichler would induce a ground out to end the game.

The loss went to DU starter Rebecca Dyer who allowed just two earned runs while scattering eight hits and striking out five.  Bichler improved to 5-4 on the year while allowing six hits and two runs to go along with five strike outs.

In game two, DePauw starter Kahla Nolan had Denison's number as she turned in a complete game, one-hit shutout.  Denison starter Kelsey Hager pitched well, allowing two earned runs in her six innings pitched, but Nolan did not surrender a hit until the top of the sixth inning when Emily Lipsitz took a 3-2 pitch and laced it to right-centerfield.

Denison falls to 12-10 overall and 3-3 in the NCAC with the loss while DePauw improves to 12-12 and a perfect 8-0 in conference play.  DU will look to bounce back on Saturday (April 13) when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
