DU evens NCAC record at Oberlin

Box Score

Denison picked up its 12th win of the season and evened its North Coast Athletic Conference record at 1-1 following a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-14) win at Oberlin on Wednesday night.

Despite dominating the all-time series 52-7, the Big Red found itself in an early hole after dropping the opening set to the Yeowomen.  Looking to avoid its eighth loss in 60 matches against Oberlin, DU evened things up with a 25-19 win in the second set.  Denison carried the momentum into the next two sets en route to posting back-to-back 25-14 decisions.

With the absence of kills leader Kenzie Kuhn, the first-year trio of Brittany Perry, Elena Lein and Annemarie Fischer picked up the slack with a combined 38 kills.  Perry led the offense with 21 kills, while Lein and Fischer added 10 and seven, respectively.  Sophomore setter Jessica Borsani finished the night with 44 assists, while libero Emily Marguerite served up four aces.

Defensively, Marguerite posted 18 digs, while Allie Becker logged 10 in four sets.  Perry also notched a career-best 13 digs.  Lein finished the match with six blocks, including five solo, while sophomore Emily Dean had three solo rejections.

DU improved to 12-4 on the year and 1-1 in league play, while Oberlin fell to 7-7 overall and 0-3 in the NCAC.  The Big Red returns to the court on Saturday when they travel to Hiram for a tri-match.  Denison will take on the Terriers in an NCAC tilt at 1 p.m., and will follow that up with a 3 p.m. match against La Roche.
