Two second-half goals send DU past Brockport

Box Score

First-year Courtney Testani scored the go-ahead goal in the 51st minute as Denison rallied from an early one-goal deficit to hand Brockport their first loss of the season, 2-1, on Saturday at Nazareth College.  With the win, the Big Red are off to their best start to a season since 2003 when they won their first three games.

The Golden Eagles wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Kelly-Ann Henry converted the first shot attempt of the game to give Brockport a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.  Brockport attempted just two more shots in the first half, one of which was turned away by goalie Brittany Benson.  Each team also attempted two corners in the opening 35 minutes.

In the second half, sophomore Mia Day scored the equalizer at 49:18 off an assist from Taylor Bacon.  Exactly one minute and 51 seconds later, Testani logged her first-collegiate goale off an assist from fellow rookie Molly Chapman.

The Golden Eagles held a 9-7 edge in shot, while the Big Red attempted eight corners compared to four by Brockport.  Benson finished the day with six saves, while Kasey Schreiner stopped one shot.

DU improves to 3-0, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-1.  Denison returns to action tomorrow when they take on host Nazareth, who defeated SUNY-Oswego 3-2 in overtime, in the championship game of the Nazareth Tournament.  Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
