Denison splits on final day at B-W

The Denison volleyball team split their final two matches at the 13th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College on Saturday afternoon.  The Big Red defeated Buffalo State 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23), and dropped a 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-20) decision to Otterbein.

Against the Bengals, seniors Lauren Strowder and Kristen Hughes each had 10 kills to pace the Big Red offense, while Claire Koneval dished out 35 assists.  Brittany Brannon and Lauren Gustafson each recorded two service aces.  Defensively, senior Brooke Beavers logged a team-best 19 digs, and rookie Emily Marguerite posted 13 digs.  At the net, Strowder registered three blocks (two solo, one assist).

Against the Cardinals, Hughes and Gustafson led the attack with four kills apiece.  Koneval had 15 assists, while Marguerite finished with 14 digs.

Following the conclusion of the tournament Hughes was one of 10 athletes named to the all-tournament team.  In four matches, Hughes hit .301 with 32 kills and just seven errors in 83 attempts.  The senior also logged 23 digs and two solo blocks.

Denison (5-5) returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 13) when they travel to Capital University.  Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
