Box Score Denison opened each of their three sets against visiting Otterbein University strong, but the Cardinals, who were picked to finish second in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll, defeated the Big Red, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15).
Denison was paced by senior outside hitter Lauren Strowder who posted a match-high eight kills in her 18 attacks. Strowder also added three blocks and four digs on the night. First-year Emily Marguerite turned in a strong showing in her first collegiate match by leading the Big Red with 10 digs. Senior libero Brooke Beavers followed with eight digs and Claire Koneval notched 13 assists.
Otterbein was paced by Annie Juenger who finished with seven kills. Lindsey Russell posted 19 digs and Tabatha Piper posted 24 assists.
The Cardinals improve to 1-0 on the season while the Big Red drop to 0-1. Denison will return to action on Friday when they take on Grove City College at 4:30 p.m. and Manchester College at 8:30 p.m. from the Ohio Wesleyan Bishop Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
