The sixth-ranked Denison women's tennis team improved to 9-3 on the season and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference following an 8-1 victory over conference rival Kenyon College on Wednesday afternoon from the Mitchell Center in Granville, Ohio.
The Big Red jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles competition. Senior Kristin Cobb and junior Sarah Short cruised past Prita Kidder and Amy Schlessmen, 8-2, at the first doubles flight. The teams of Alex Marcell and Kelsey Geppner, and Jane Lent and Kate Westenberger each logged 8-3 wins at second and third doubles, respectively.
Cobb also knocked off Kidder in straight sets at No. 1 singles in the clash of regionally-ranked opponents. The senior recorded a 6-3 victory in the first set, and gutted out a 7-5 decision in the second. Geppner, Marcell, Westenberger and rookie Lilianna Broussalian all notched straight-set wins at third through sixth singles.
Denison returns to action on Friday (April 8) at the Midwest Invitational in Madison, Wis. DU opens play at the invite against Carleton at 11:15 a.m.
