The fifth-ranked Denison University women's tennis team extended their current winning streak to five with a 9-0 victory over North Coast Athletic Conference foe Wittenberg University on Tuesday in Springfield, Ohio.
Reigning NCAC Player of the Week Kristin Cobb and junior Sarah Short teamed up for an 8-3 win over Maggie Stewart and Anne Beauch at No. 1 doubles. The doubles tandem of Alex Marcell and Jane Lent logged an 8-5 win at the second flight, while Kelsey Geppner and Courtney Steiner recorded a convincing 8-2 victory at third doubles.
Cobb, Marcell and rookie Lilianna Broussalian notched shutout wins at first, fourth and fifth singles, while Short, Geppner and rookie Caroline Margraf also registered straight-set victories.
DU improves to 8-3 on the year and 2-0 in the league, while Wittenberg falls to 11-3 and 0-1 in the conference. Denison returns to action next Tuesday (April 5) at Case Western Reserve. The match is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
