The Denison University women's tennis team dropped their first dual match of the season against Division II, California University of Pa. on Friday from the Mitchell Center in Granville, Ohio.
Junior Sarah Short (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel) and rookie Kelsey Geppner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) recorded the two singles victories for the Big Red. Short defeated Anastassiya Zherdeva in straight-sets 7-5,61 at No. 3 singles, while Geppner logged a 6-1, 6-2 win over Laurie Navarro in the sixth flight.
In doubles action, the first doubles team of senior Kristin Cobb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and junior Erin Chadwell (Hillsborough, Calif./Traverse City Central [Ill.]) notched an 8-5 victory overAnnabel Pieschl and Franziska Steinhardt.
DU falls to 0-1 on the year, while the Vulcans improve to 7-1. Denison returns to the court on March 4 when they take part in the annual ITA National Indoors in St. Peter, Minn.
