Box Score The Denison volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-21) victory over Oberlin College on Wednesday evening in Granville. With the win, the Big Red remains in fourth place in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 5-2 record.
Denison controlled the majority of the match en route to the straight-set victory. The Yeowomen made a run in the second set, building up their largest lead of the night at 21-18. However, DU battled back to eventually win a 27-25 decision. The third set was tightly contested until a late Big Red run secured the victory.
Seniors Lauren Strowder and Kristen Hughes paced the Denison attack with 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Also contributing to the offense was first-year hitter Elsa Manning. Manning posted a career-high seven kills and a career-best .778 attacking percentage. Senior Megan Early also logged seven kills on the night. Rookie setter Jessica Borsani dished out 32 assists in two sets, while senior Claire Koneval had 13 assists in the opener. Koneval and classmate Brooke Beavers also registered three service aces apiece.
Defensively, Beavers tallied 13 digs, while Brittany Brannon and Emily Marguerite had nine and six, respectively. Hughes, Early and sophomore Madison Owen each had two blocks on the night.
The Big Red (10-9) returns to action this weekend when they take part in the NCAC Weekend at The College of Wooster. DU opens up play on Friday (Oct. 15) at noon against Kenyon College.
